Biblical Cosmology — The Earth, Heavens, Foundations, and Firmament

God sits above the חוּג (chug) — the circle/circuit — of the earth and stretches out the heavens like a curtain and a tent.

God inscribes a boundary (חֹק) on the face of the waters, at the confines/limit of light and darkness.

When God established the heavens, Wisdom was there — when he set a חוּג (circle) on the face of the deep.

God laid the foundations (מְכוֹנֶיהָ / yesod-language) of the earth so that it should not be moved forever.

Yahweh reigns; he is clothed with majesty. The world (tebel) is established — it cannot be moved.

All the earth is to tremble before God; the world is established so that it cannot be moved.

The pillars (מְצֻקֵי / ammud-family) of the earth are Yahweh's; he has set the world on them.

The earth and all its inhabitants quake; God says he holds its pillars firm.

Can you, with him, spread out the sky, which is strong as a molten/cast metal mirror?

God sends out his voice/lightning under the whole sky and to the 'kanphei ha'arets' — the wings/corners/ends of the earth.

John sees four angels standing at the four corners (γωνίαι, gōniai) of the earth, holding the four winds so no wind would blow.

God gathers the dispersed of Judah from the four kanaph (wings/corners/extremities) of the earth.

The devil takes Jesus to an exceedingly high mountain and shows him all the kingdoms of the world (kosmos/oikoumene traditions vary) and their glory.

God looks to the qetsavot / qatseh (ends, extremities) of the earth and sees under the whole heavens.

God stretches out the north (tsafon) over empty space (tohu) and hangs (talah) the earth on nothing (belimah — 'not-a-thing').

God will roll/wind Shebna around like a כַּדּוּר (kaddur — a ball) and throw him into a wide land.
